On the 14th June 1905 Herbert received 10 days 'Imps H L' for attempting to strike an NCO, he returned to duty on the 24th June 1905. On the 2nd March 1906 he got promoted to the rank of L/Cpl. On the 8th April 1907 he was detained and convicted by the civil police of theft and was sentenced to 6 months in prison & HL. As a consequence of this he was discharged from the army on the 30th April 1907. It appears from the records that he reversed his cristian names and joined the army as Richard Herbert Mantle. He joined up again later for WW1 as Herbert Richard Mantle. |
